With McCall as it's hub and other great communities
to stay and play nearby, Idaho's Adventure Alley offers a
great diversity of lodging, dining, and activities while on
your adventure.
To the north is
Riggins and
White Bird, Idaho.
This is Idaho's whitewater capital
and home to the second deepest gorge in North America.
In summer, this small town explodes with river rafters from
all of the world having just taken a half day, full day, or
one of the many multi-day trips on the Salmon River that end
near Riggins. In the fall, winter and spring, fisherman rule as the Salmon and Steelhead as they make their way back to
Idaho's free-flowing rivers to spawn.
Traveling south from the Riggins area on Highway 95 you'll
enjoy the view as you drive along the Little Salmon River
until you reach the New Meadows Valley. This
spectacular valley (located on the 45th Parallel) offers visitors the chance to soak in the
nearby natural hot springs, play golf in the summer, or grab
their first glimpse of Idaho's favorite powder resort,
Brundage Mountain.
New Meadows lies at the
junction of Highway 95 and 55 and offers lodging
accommodations and dining including Sagebrush BBQ- a locals
favorite!
Just 9 miles south of New Meadows is
McCall and the
heart of Idaho's Adventure Alley. This popular resort
town is home to beautiful Payette Lake which offers a
multitude of water play activities. The glacier lake is
surrounded by lush forest and is also the home to Ponderosa
State park which offers great hiking trails overlooking the
lake. In the winter, Brundage Mountain Ski Resort
looks over Payette Lake inviting skiers to enjoy Idaho's
amazing snow and powder. McCall is also a popular area
for cross-country skiers and
snowmobiling with miles
and miles of trails available for both. The Activity
Barn, the areas only
lift-served tubing hill is also located just south of
McCall.
Traveling another 10 miles south you come to the town of
Donnelly which has traditionally been a small town on
the way to McCall. Donnelly, now, however, boasts lots
of new businesses, eateries and even a new hotel as this is
the gateway to Tamarack Resort. Tamarack Resort is
Idaho's newest destination resort offering golf, lodging,
skiing, and other winter and summer activities. While
the resort is still in an early development, there are
already deluxe
accommodations, eating establishments, luxury spas and more!
South of Donnelly is the town of
Cascade located next to Lake Cascade and a plethora of
winter and summer activities. Boaters and fisherman
spend hours exploring one of Idaho's largest lakes and in
the winter snowmobilers and skiers call Cascade their home
base with nearby access to Tamarack Resort and miles of
snowmobile trails in the West Mountains. Cascade is
also a depot stop for the
Thunder Mountain Train
which travels along the scenic Payette River.
From Cascade, heading south on Highway 55 you will travel
along the Payette River through a beautiful canyon on your
way to Banks and the
Garden Valley area. As you drive you'll be able to
see the spectacular whitewater opportunities of the area.
In the Summer, rafting trips are available along the Main
Payette River and the South Fork of the Payette River.
Garden Valley is truly a outdoorsman's paradise with easy
access to the Boise National Forest. Visitors enjoy
hiking, backcountry cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hot
springs, and even theater! The Starlight Mountain
Theater presents Broadway style performances throughout the
summer under the stars.
