Enjoy the mountains, the spectacular views and the peace and quiet. Schweitzer's 30 kilometer network of trails has something to offer everyone. Glide through majestic old growth forests, take it easy on the flats or get the blood pumping on some challenging climbs to the peaks of scenic terrain. There are countless options on this scenic network of trails. We thought we would highlight a few of the more popular trails and leave the rest for you to explore and discover on your own. Picnic Point Out and Back This is a lovely trek that will take you through some of Schweitzer's more accessible and scenic terrain. Start at the village trailhead and follow Overland to the GRR trail intersection and turn left. Take GRR out to Picnic Point. Bring your lunch.

Terrain: Gentle ups and downs

Distance: 3mi/5k round trip

Elevation Gain: Total 320 feet

Overland Trail Loop This loop takes skiers around the perimeter of Schweitzer's Trail system past Picnic Point and back to Schweitzer Village via the cat track short cut. There are numerous "side track trail" opportunities throughout the route.

Terrain: Some sustained but not steep ups and downs

Distance: 5mi/8k round trip

Elevation Gain: Total 550 feet

Howling Rock Haul For more of a challenge, take the trek to Howling Rock. The payoff is spectacular with views of Lake Pend Oreille and the surrounding mountains and valleys. Howling Rock is accessed via the Cloud Walker Trail. Study the trail map and select one of the many routes to the Rock.

Terrain: A little bit of everything, mostly gentle ups and downs with a nice flat across Cloud Walker

Elevation Gain: Total 750 feet

Top Elevation: 6,400 feet Vertical Drop: 2,400 Feet Lift-Served Terrain: 2,500 acres Terrain: 20% Beginner, 40% Intermediate, 35% Advanced, 5% Expert Longest Run: 2.7 miles, The Great Divide Chair Lifts: 4 Double Chairs, 1 Hi-Speed Quad and 1 Six-Pack (Stella)

From Spokane International Airport (GEG): (approx. 94 miles) 1. Go East on Airport Dr. 2. Bear right on ramp to US 2 East 3. Continue on US-2 E until you can bear left on ramp to I-90 East 4. Continue on I-90 East. 5. the US-95 exit # 12 in Coeur d'Alene and head north to Sandpoint 6. When you arrive in Sandpoint, continue North on 95 until the HWY95/ HWY200 intersection 7. Take a left to stay on HWY 95 and continue driving until the next stop light (Burger King on corner) 8. Turn left onto Schweitzer Cut Off Road 9. At T intersection take a right onto North Boyer and continue driving approximately 1/2 mile 10. When you reach the Schweitzer sign turn left onto Schweitzer Basin Rd. 11. Continue on Schweitzer Basin Rd. about 9 miles to reach Schweitzer Village

Schweitzer Mountain Resort is located 11 miles north of Sandpoint, Idaho. Lodging options are available at the mountain and also in the town of Sandpoint.
