I have a quick question about Wilderness River Outfitters - Activities...
People who travel with WRO love their adventuresome style with outstanding guides, flexible activities, small groups, and customized whitewater rafting trips.
River Rafting with Friends
"We went with best friends and made some great new friends (like you!!!). Bob and Roger had the best time fishing together off the back of the boat... encouraging each other, taking turns casting, and helping each other spot and then release the fish.... they were in heaven. Kathy and I sat in the bow and just grinned at each other listening to them having such fun." Chris Polk, Middle Fork Salmon.

Facts About River Trips
Photos | Reviews
|
| How strenuous or difficult is a river trip?
Generally, the whitewater is different on each trip. Class I-III is good for families or most anyone. Class IV is for those with a little experience or the very adventuresome novice that is in good physical condition. Class V is for the experienced, very adventuresome in excellent physical condition. Some rivers are easier for camping, some have less steep terrain for hiking. Generally, most off river activities are optional so guest can do as much or as little as they want. We will be happy to help you find a trip that is right for your fitness level and desire for adventure.
What gear do I need?
Every thing a guest needs will be provided, except personal belongings. Generally, you will have most of the gear you need already in your closet. Quick drying bathing suits are good. Some warm clothes are needed, synthetic pile or polypropylene is best for warmth. These dry very fast and are warm even when damp. One of the most important items on the list is good rain gear. If we should encounter some stormy weather you need to be able to protect yourself from the elements. Cheap plastic rain gear is not recommended. Rain suit with a hood is best.
How many people are on your trips?
Small trips with a maximum of 12 guest are the norm on each trip (except for charter trips that wish to have more). This allows trips to be more compatible with the wilderness environment, flexible to the interest of the group, and a more personal experience.
What type of food do you provide?
Everyone on our trips are amazed at the food on our trips. We serve fresh hearty meals. Examples: Breakfast - french toast, bacon, fresh fruit, juice or english muffins, grilled ham, eggs, fresh fruit, juice.
Lunch - Turkey sandwiches, fruit salad, chips and dip, cookies and candy.
Dinner - Grilled salmon, pasta alfredo, steamed asparagus, pound cake topped with strawberries or a nice thick New York steak, green salad, baked potato, french bread, and cheese cake. Do you offer vegetarian or other specialized menus? They will be happy to customize a menu to your needs. Please inform well in advance of the trip so guides know your requirements when they do the shopping for your trip. What is the best trip for my family? The Salmon River is the most popular, all around trip. It is an excellent family trip because it is a Class III river with big sandy beaches and water that is warm enough to swim in. There is so much to do and see - pioneer homesteads, Indian drawings, hikes, hot springs, beach games, and the weather is usually pretty warm for a mountain river. Do you have any age limits? For the Salmon River we recommend an age limit of 8 years old and for the Middle Fork of the Flathead we recommend 12 years old. Deciding when a child is ready for a river trip is an individual decision and we are a little flexible with this so feel free to discuss your child with us.

Main Salmon

| | Idaho's Main Salmon River trip has long been one of our favorite whitewater rafting trips. Whether you are a novice river runner or an experienced white water enthusiast, you'll be enchanted by the beauty of the rugged canyon, the comfort of the large sandy beaches, the excitement of the rapids, and the history of the tough men and women who lived in this remote wilderness. It's rough and wild country, but you'll find the Salmon has a special beauty and magic, and a river trip with WRO is the perfect way to experience it.
We'll take time to hike, fish, explore historic cabins, and soak in the natural hot springs. There's rappelling, too, for those looking for a challenge. The refreshing waters and inviting beaches are great for swimming and relaxing in the sun.
The whitewater on the Salmon consists of big, fun class III to IV rapids. They're great rides and provide lots of excitement, but aren't too intimidating. We'll have oar boats, paddleboats, and inflatable kayaks along so you can choose just how much excitement you want in Elkhorn, Big Mallard, Salmon Falls, and many more!
Our small group size (15 person max.) means your trip will be customized to your interests, and if you are coming with friends, ask us about charter trips! Join us for six stress-free days on this majestic river, and you will arrive as our guests and leave as our friends.
Middle Fork of the Salmon

| Idaho's Middle Fork of the Salmon River is one of the premier whitewater rafting rivers in the West. The many great rapids (class III and IV) have made the Middle Fork of the Salmon famous, but it also has an amazing variety of other attractions that will make your 6-day river trip a spectacular vacation.
The water is crystal clear and beautiful, and the fishing for native cutthroat trout can be extraordinary. Relaxing natural hot springs dot the river corridor, and there are numerous Native American and pioneer historic sites to explore. The area is home to bighorn sheep, deer, elk, black bear, river otters and other wildlife that can often be seen along the river.
The Middle Fork flows through the heart of the 2.3 million acre Frank Church Wilderness Area, the largest wilderness in the lower 48 states. From its beginning high in the mountains of central Idaho, you'll travel over 100 miles through breathtaking, continually changing scenery. You'll descend approximately 3,000 feet in elevation, beginning in the high, dense forests of fir and spruce, passing by majestic ponderosa pines dotting grassy slopes, and finally entering the rugged granite gorge of Impassable Canyon
The six-day river trips on the Middle Fork will be a vacation you'll always remember for the rapids, spectacular scenery, fishing, hot-springs, and great hiking, but you'll also remember the experience, knowledge, kindness, and fun-loving nature of our guides. We'll have oar-boats, paddle-boats, and inflatable kayaks available so you can choose your level of excitement. Choose this fabulous trip on one of America's best whitewater rivers!
