About Baker City, OR:
Baker City is located in Eastern Oregon, where miles of scenic byways, alpine wilderness, working cattle ranches and basalt canyons are still the place for explorers to make their mark. The city was granted its charter in 1870. During the Gold Rush days, Baker City was the center of activity and supported several nearby gold mining towns. The city no longer has wild saloons, but visitors can now enjoy its nationally recognized historic shopping district, museums and attractions.
Baker City is in Baker County, which includes part of the Snake River and the Oregon Trail, the Hells Canyon National Scenic Byway, and the southern end of the Hells Canyon itself, the deepest river carved gorge in North America. |
