Description
It all started in the early 1840's when the Oregon
Trail came right through what would later become Boise. However, the history of
Boise City really began in 1862 when a major gold discovery, some 40 miles north, prompted
the need for an Army fort. With a newfound security, the frontier community began to
grow.
For the past 20 years, Tottin' Tater, an 1890's style locomotive, has meandered through the streets of Boise, spreading tales of these early gold seekers and the pioneer families that supported them. As "Tater" chugs along, you'll see and hear about Boise's first log cabin, the original sandstone gates of Fort Boise, and realize that your right across the river from the Oregon Trail. We'll also shamelessly dispense Tour Train humor, worth of its weight in gold.
The Tour Train is a family event: a memorable ride for everyone. Back at the depot, you're just a stone's throw from the Idaho State Historical Museum and Zoo Boise. Frankly, you haven't had this much fun and enlightenment since you realized you had toes.
