High Country Inn B&B- Ahsahka Description:
Completed in 2005, the High Country Inn is located on the way to Dworshak Dam, and is situated in a clearing on the mountains surrounded by ponderosa pines. The 2400 square foot Inn is patterned after a northwest lodge. The great room has a 25' foot vaulted ceiling, large stone fireplace, two sitting areas, and two bedrooms with private bathrooms.
Jo, the owner and hostess, is a professional caterer and makes sumptuous, large breakfasts to order, including homemade breads, pastries, sauces and desserts - she will also make lunch and dinner on request. Jo does invite the public to dinner on most weekends during the year, with seating inside the Inn, on the wraparound flagstone patio with mountain and river views, or the sunken garden with gurgling fountain.
Two free standing cabins are a short walk from the Inn along a gravel path, and are furnished with hand-made lodge pole pine furniture, high quality bedding, towels, thick bathrobes, spa slippers, inroom coffee and tea, board games and books. There are wooden rocking chairs and a glider on each porch with serene mountain views, and there are no TV's or phones in the cabins to allow maximum relaxation and escape. The shared hot tub is on the edge of garden area and tucked into the trees.
Guests may avail themselves of a large beer and wine selection (Jo uses the honor system) and complimentary munchies to kick back and relax for awhile. Comfortable seating on one of the soft leather sofas invites you to either read and enjoy the fireplace, or watch TV or a favorite movie on the 36" TV. Guests who are into cooking are invited into the professional teaching kitchen to take part in food preparation, or if gardening is more your forte, grab a pair of clippers and join in deadheading the spent blossoms of the profuse pots of plants.
There is plenty of space and deer trails to stretch your legs while watching for wild turkey, quail, cottontails, as well as deer and grouse. Added features are the availability of horseback riding and guided deer hunting trips, all conveniently accessible a short walk up the hill.
