Warren is a historic gold-mining town located 45-50 miles from the popular resort town of McCall. Warren was founded during the gold boom days of the mid 1800's by James Warren (1862). Warren is the 5th oldest town in Idaho and although frequently referred to as a ghost town, has never been without a resident population. The current population is about 12-16 hardy souls year round and 45-50 people in the summer months. During the boom times the population soared to around 5,000. These days Warren plays host to the locally famous Crab Feed, usually sometime in March every year. On your way to Warren you travel through the Payette National Forest, along the Secesh River. There are numerous chances to view the local inhabitants including deer, elk, and moose. There are also several old logging roads that can be used for hiking, snowmobiling, and 4 wheeling. Burgdorf Hot Springs is a popular stop along the way, accessible only by snowmobile during the winter. It features a large natural hot springs pool and smaller hot pools as well as rustic cabins that can be rented nightly. While in Warren you can visit the old historic buildings and gold dredges. Warren is the perfect place to visit for the day or for a long, truly relaxing weekend.
