Welcome to Island Park, Idaho
About Island Park:
The same natural forces that made Yellowstone National Park so scenic have made Island Park similarly beautiful. Once you leave the agricultural Upper Snake River Valley outside of Ashton, you'll actually be driving up the edge of an ancient caldera, a collapsed volcano. Once you're on top, the landscape is rolling hills surrounded by mountains. The former caldera is 18 miles long, 23 miles wide and is marked by a 1,200 foot scarp on the south and west rims.
The result is country just made for relaxation and recreation. The heart of Island Park is Harriman State Park, 4,330 acres of pristine forest land and high-country meadows. Located in the center of a 16,000 acre wildlife refuge, the park is haven to rare trumpeter swans, numerous waterfowl, and elk, deer and other wildlife. The world famous fly fishing stream, Henry's Fork of the Snake River, winds through the meadows at the park.
You can fish in the summer and Nordic ski or snowmobile in the winter. And it's just a short jaunt to Yellowstone.
